Season One: The First OneOur premiere season (or, in many internal E-mails, "premier" season) featured an original theme song composed by Ben Larson which, over the opening credits, accompanied footage of Mike and Ben wreaking havoc in the dorms, dining halls, and Ackerman Plaza, pursued cumulatively by the MB Crew, the Destroyers, and Heckman and Rizwan. Episodes in this season were titled by Rizwan during the editing process. The letters "TOW" (an abstruse initialism representing "the one where" or "the one which") preceded each Rizwan title, but those are not the titles used on this web page. In the early episodes, the hosting sequences typically featured Mike and Ben doing the duty of a title card, introducing to our audience the idea behind each "skitch" (a word coined by Mike in the Valentine's Day episode, meaning "skit-sketch"). Since most of the pieces already had title cards, the hosting sequences sometimes suffered: it would be difficult for even the most talented comic to emcee pieces that require little or no introduction. Starting with the Art Nouveau episode, however, Thor took the hosting sequences in a new direction which sustained through the second season. These episodes also regularly feature independently produces short student films. While not the work of "The Mike and Ben Show," these student films occasionally featured Mike and Ben talent. All episodes in this season conclude with the logo of "Shanghai Ped," our production cabal. The icon, a cartoon of an Asian schoolgirl in a short skirt, was projected over a different background at the end of the credits every week. |
